These Wajima-nuri paperweights are the work of master Shokunin (artisan) Masakatsu Nakatsu, who possesses the world-class expertise required to replicate the National Treasure "Funabashi Maki-e Writing Box" by Hon'ami Koetsu.

Motifs & Symbolism
■ Dragonflies (Kachimushi - "Victory Insects")
Historically favored by Samurai as a decoration for helmets and armor.

Symbolism: Known as "Kachimushi" because they only fly forward and never retreat. They represent the spirit of perseverance and victory. This motif is a powerful charm for success in business, sports, or exams.

■ Ladybugs (Tentomushi)
Regarded as a universal symbol of good luck in both the East and the West.

Symbolism: In Japan, the name "Tentomushi" (Heavenly Path Insect) comes from their habit of flying upward toward the sun (the gods). They are believed to elevate one's fortune and bring success and happiness to the home.

■ Frogs (Kaeru)
A beloved motif believed to bring "positive transformation" to its owner.

Symbolism: The Japanese word for frog, Kaeru, is a homophone for "return." This makes them a lucky charm for safe returns (travel), returning wealth (money), and returning youth. They also symbolize "leaping forward" (progress) and "fertility" (prosperity).
