Bunshindo Hata Brush Studio is a distinguished workshop known for producing high-quality goat hair brushes, which require the most advanced techniques in brush-making. Since the time when the manufacturing methods for goat hair brushes were not yet fully established, the studio has handled the finest and rarest materials, such as kosai-bichōkōhō, the delicate hair from the underside of a wild male goat’s chin to its chest. This material is extremely scarce, and the studio has carefully preserved it for future use, as it is no longer available today. Their confidence in the quality of their materials is evident in the fact that, with the exception of small brushes, they rarely use adhesives for setting the hair.

The greatest allure of calligraphy and ink painting lies in the rich expression born from the harmonious interaction of ink, paper, and brush. The brushes crafted by Bunshindo Hata Brush Studio are beloved by professionals who continually create waves of new expression. With their exceptional suppleness, brushes like kosun kolinsky and kosun weasel, as well as those made from a variety of horse parts such as tail, mane, abdomen, and legs, or from mujina (badger), inspire artists to create expressions that can only be achieved in that moment, by that person.

Bunshindo also produces luxurious makeup brushes using the finest, rare natural hairs in their collection. These brushes, described as 'makeup brushes that indulge your instincts, using globally rare natural hairs to create a translucent, bare-skin-like finish,' are made with 100% pure, carefully matured natural bristles. The brush's soft, fluffy texture feels like it melts against the skin. The handle, made from cherry wood, is hand-painted by Japan lacquer artist Naoya Takayama, who also crafted souvenirs for the 2023 G7 Hiroshima Summit. This brush encapsulates the finest craftsmanship that Japan has to offer.
